During the Civil War, the state of Maryland became a border between the unionist and secessionist states. As such, 3000 of her sons met at Gettysburg wearing either blue or grey. The bloody fighting at Culp’s Hill saw brother agains brother. The Maryland Monument honors both of their dedication to their beliefs.
